MGH Institute of Health Professions — Provost / Vice President of Academic Affairs

MGH Institute of Health Professions (the Institute) seeks a dynamic, distinguished leader to serve as its next Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs to lead the Institute as it embarks on significant growth and diversification strategies.

The Institute is an innovative, interprofessional graduate school in Boston, MA that prepares health professionals and scientists to advance care for a diverse society through leadership in education, clinical practice, research and community engagement. The Institute has 1,636 enrolled students and offers programs in Genetic Counseling, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Professions Education (MS and PhD), Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, and Rehabilitation Sciences (PhD). The Institute is about to open a new School of Healthcare Leadership, which will add significantly to the Institute’s offerings, increase enrollments, amplify the value proposition with the Mass General Brigham (MGB) health system, and build new partnerships locally and nationally.  Founded by Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in 1977, the Institute is an independent institution accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). 

The Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs will work with senior leadership and faculty to develop the next Strategic Plan, ensuring that the Institute is able to optimize its strong history and alumni base as a private health professions institution and is responsive to evolving technological changes and higher education’s changing landscape particularly within healthcare. Significant expansion of the research portfolio is well underway and on track to achieve the target of $30M.  

The next Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs will express a passion for the Institute’s mission and understand the important role the Institute plays in Boston and the region. Qualified candidates will possess an earned doctorate in a relevant discipline within the health sciences or health professions or senior level administrative experience within the health professions with a record of teaching, research/scholarship and service to qualify for faculty appointment at the rank of full Professor. In addition, a deeply collaborative and transparent approach to leadership, a record of supporting and enhancing research among faculty and the skills required to promote specialized and interprofessional education will be distinguishing assets. A firm understanding of emerging needs and trends in health professional higher education in order to advance strategic priorities will be required. Exceptional and steady leadership, communication and execution skills are essential for success, as is financial acumen, the ability to foster a culture of shared governance and a record of impact along multiple dimensions of justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and access.
