Wentworth Institute of Technology – Associate Dean, School of Computing and Data Science

The associate dean supports the dean in providing administrative oversight for the School of Computing and Data Science (SCDS) undergraduate and graduate programs, with particular attention to student services, accreditation, faculty processes and curriculum.

Essential Functions:

  • Academic Leadership – provide leadership for and coordination of all assigned academic programs, including strategic planning, resource allocation, implementation, and faculty mentoring.
  • Academic Operations – provide leadership for and coordination of the operational function of the academic mission of the school including the development, revision, and maintenance of the curriculum.
  • Faculty Training and Development – provides and monitors the effectiveness of orientation programs for new full and part-time faculty. Facilitates, monitors, and evaluates faculty professional development.
  • Faculty Recruitment and Retention – In conjunction with the Dean, determines and executes best practices for campus faculty retention, hiring of adjuncts and fulltime faculty.
  • Student Retention – with Dean, assesses effectiveness of instructional delivery, student support and student services as it relates to student retention.
  • Represent the college – exhibits initiative, enthusiasm, and teamwork in accomplishing the responsibilities of the position. Also, represent the college at events and activities when the dean is unavailable.
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: In conjunction with Dean, works on increasing diversity and representation in faculty, staff and student body and foster a culture of inclusive excellence.
  • Accreditation – lead all coordinate all duties pertaining to accreditation including coordination faculty, assessments and be the face of the school for all essential accreditation functions
  • Teaching: teaches two classes a year in the school 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computing, Mathematics, or related field.
  • A strong teaching and scholarship record
  • 3+ years or more administration experience (department, school/college, university)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ABET accreditation standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership, management, and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with professional discretion and judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills to balance multiple and simultaneous priorities.
  • Interest in student, faculty, and staff well-being / collegiality

Desired Qualifications:

  • 5+ years or more administration experience (department, school/college, university)
  • Experience with government agencies and/or national laboratories, and the ability to acquire/coordinate acquisition of external funding.

Measures of Merit:

  • TBD by supervisor within 90 days of hire.

The School of Computing and Data Science has undergraduate programs in Computer Science, Computer Networking, Cybersecurity, and Applied Mathematics and has recently launched graduate programs in Applied Computer Science, Data Science, and Business Analytics. The school has 30+ fulltime faculty and staff and serves 800+ students.
