Position Description:
The Assistant Dean of Diversity, Inclusion and Admissions (DIA) in the UCLA Graduate Division provides high-profile leadership to UCLA's efforts to recruit, admit and yield outstanding, diverse graduate students from diverse and underrepresented groups to more than 100 master's and doctoral degree programs. To support institutional success, the Assistant Dean cultivates strategic partnerships with leaders in academic departments, central student services organizations, peers at other University of California (UC) campuses, and administrators at the UC Office of the President.

The Assistant Dean is responsible for central graduate admissions services at UCLA, which receives nearly 30,000 applications each year. The role includes administering admissions policies and providing leadership in evolving admissions policies and their administration. Success requires close collaboration with faculty and student affairs officers in departments; staff in Graduate Division IT, Fellowships & Financial Services, and Academic Services; the University Registrar, and others.

The Assistant Dean develops and plans outreach activities to recruit prospective applicants, and provides services and programming to support the academic success of newly enrolled students. Examples include participating in recruitment events at conferences, regional diversity forums and minority-serving institutions; promoting the success of faculty and student participants in the UC-HBCU initiative; sponsoring campus networking events for underrepresented students; and coordinating summer bridge programs for entering doctoral students. The Assistant Dean works closely with faculty Associate Deans and other Assistant Deans in the Graduate Division on campus- and extramurally-funded projects based in the Graduate Division that focus on enhancing the diversity of the graduate student and postdoctoral scholar populations.

Reporting to the Dean and under the faculty oversight of the Associate Deans, the Assistant Dean of DIA serves as a member of the Graduate Division Executive Staff. The Assistant Dean of DIA leads a dynamic team of 5-6 FTEs and ~3 seasonal admissions staff who are committed to inclusivity and student success.

Key attributes of the successful candidate will include a history of progressively responsible leadership experience and accomplishments in higher education. This vital position requires strong communication, collaboration, entrepreneurial, analysis, and strategic planning skills.

Experience in managing an enterprise workflow and using customer relationship management (CRM) and social media tools for communicating with prospects and current populations is required. An understanding of prospective graduate student demographics, and knowledge and experience with graduate-level recruitment and admissions, particularly for students from communities historically underrepresented in higher education, are highly desired.
