The Ohio State University — Director of Recruitment and Retention

The Director of Recruitment and Retention oversees the development of strategic recruitment plans to increase applications and enrollment for first semester freshmen and transfer students in the College of Education and Human Ecology (EHE). Acts as liaison between EHE and other Ohio State offices that engage in undergraduate recruitment. 

  • Works closely with appropriate offices to collaboratively develop and support strategic plans for underrepresented minority and under enrolled programs. Leads efforts to support transfer students in collaboration with support services in the Office of Academic Affairs. Develops and strengthens EHE relationships with high school counselors and community members. Manages and directs the research, development, and implementation of recruitment projects and programs targeting prospective high school juniors, seniors, underrepresented minority students, and under enrolled undergraduate programs for the EHE. Coordinates prospective student events and meets individually and in groups with prospective students and their families. Coordinates on-campus and off-campus recruitment events, including college Open House. Manages, develops, and coordinates the calendar for regular recruitment events with University Admissions and First Year Experience (UAFYE),
  • University Honors & Scholars Center, and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Directs development of correspondence, invitations, website, and databases for recruitment events. Collaborates with college communications staff to market opportunities for involvement, creating recruitment literature, publicizing events, and ensuring all prospective students and their families receive appropriate publications. Works to identify solutions to address enrollment trends. Measures and evaluates the success of recruitment programs, communications, and special projects. Provides dean, associate deans, and department chairs with statistical, technical, and other data for admissions policy and procedure decisions. Develops and manages budgets for programs and events.
  • Supervises at least two staff members. Some weekend and evening hours and travel required.  At all times handles all interactions with enthusiasm, civility, respect and professionalism to promote and create a welcoming atmosphere for all faculty, students and customers, as well as maintains confidentiality in all matters of business responsibility and student involvement.

Minimum Education Required: Master’s Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience: A master’s degree in student Personnel Administration, Guidance and Counseling or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Considerable knowledge and experience in higher education, particularly with the recruitment and retention of new students. Experience in program planning and administration.
