University of Mississippi Joins With Rust College in a Dual-Degree Program in Engineering

Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi is partnering with the University of Mississippi in a new dual-degree program.

Under the agreement, students will spend their first three years at Rust College and then spend two years at the University of Mississippi School of Engineering. Successful students will be awarded a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Rust College and a master’s degree n engineering from the University of Mississippi. Students will be able to choose from among four concentrations: biomedical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, and mechanical engineering.

Ivy R. Taylor, president of Rust College, stated that “we are grateful and excited about this new partnership with Ole Miss School of Engineering, which expands offerings and opportunities for Rust College students. Engineering is a strong career field that needs more diversity and our Rust College students can now benefit from the small, supportive environment at Rust for three years and the strong engineering program at Ole Miss for two years.

“We will increase the pipeline of Black engineers for business and industry and increase diversity at the state’s flagship institution through this innovative partnership,” Dr. Taylor added. “I appreciate everyone who worked to make this a reality.”

Dr. Taylor received her bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a master’s degree in city and regional planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned an educational doctorate at the University of Pennsylvania.
