Job Description:
Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks applicants for a Senior Applications Analyst. This position is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and maintainability of applications that are critical to the campus community within the Administrative and Business Services portfolio.

Reporting to the Administrative and Business Services Manager, the successful candidate serves as a subject matter expert for various administrative systems, solutions, and related services for the University’s enterprise applications, including PeopleSoft, the University’s ERP. The Senior Applications Analyst is involved with the design, build/configuration, and operational activities associated with Administrative and Business Services applications; oversees the delivery of capability enhancements and system optimization; and interacts with service teams across ITS, as well as business partners and end-users.

Primary Responsibilities:
Develop, analyze, and support enterprise applications, including PeopleSoft campus solutions:

  • Identify unique approaches to complicated problems and create solutions that may require the integration of disparate systems running on a variety of technical platforms
  • Design, build, test, and maintain solutions using new and/or existing applications, including customizations and configurations that propagate to upgraded environments
  • Work with various technical and functional departments to gather business requirements, implement recommendations, and/or negotiate proposed solutions
  • Engage in the ongoing review of systems and software design and code, and recommend strategies to develop and integrate new requirements and/or improve performance and maintenance

Perform operational responsibilities, including:

  • Perform day-to-day applications operational support, including quality assurance activities and necessary documentation
  • Monitor enterprise applications to maintain service availability by applying triage skills to application failures and take actions to maintain service availability
  • Apply/comply with configuration management practices and established development standards
  • Work on items within a defined queue of requests, incidents, and problems for assigned service areas

Additional/Other Responsibilities:

  • Be available to provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation
  • Actively participate, as needed, in ITS projects

This is an on-site position. This position is not eligible for remote work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization
  • At least three years of development experience in PeopleSoft, Banner, or any ERP environment, including writing, reviewing and executing SQL statements with relational databases
  • Demonstrated programming experience in application development in one or more of the following areas: PeopleTools and/or Banner development tools, Java, JavaScript, PERL, PHP, HTML, CSS and working knowledge of software testing
  • Demonstrated ability analyzing, clarifying, and validating user’s needs/business requirements and translating them into technical design requirements, workflows, business rules, and specifications
  • Ability to design, develop, test, debug, & deploy user applications/solutions using PeopleSoft PeopleTools Application Designer objects
  • RESTful API development experience
  • Ability to independently organize work, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple and changing priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in higher education with academic administrative applications
  • Fluency in more than one programming language
  • Proven ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex, cross-team applications and integrations
  • Experience working in UNIX/Linux environment
  • Proven experience with popular JavaScript frameworks such as React and Angular

Professional Rank and Salary Grade: Senior Programmer-Analyst, SL-4; $80,000-$86,000
