Michigan State University — Fixed Term Faculty, Biological Sciences Program

The Biological Sciences (BioSci) Program is seeking two fixed term faculty members to join the BioSci Program teaching team. The successful candidates will join a diverse group of educators and discipline-based education researchers dedicated to providing high-quality undergraduate biology education. Their initial appointment will be for one year (9 months) with expectation of continuing renewal based on satisfactory performance.

One faculty member will serve as curriculum coordinator and instructor for BS171, a large enrollment introductory cell and molecular biology course designed for life-science majors. Responsibilities will include: 1) Leading BS171 instructors in continuing development of a three-dimensional laboratory curriculum that guides students through inquiry-based research projects. 2) Training, supervising, and evaluating graduate teaching assistants and undergraduate learning assistants. 3) Working with prep staff to ensure smooth lab implementation. 4) Teaching recitations and serving as an instructor in the course.

One faculty member will work with teams of faculty to develop curriculum for introductory biology lecture and lab courses and teach in these courses. Depending on the needs of the program, responsibilities may include: teaching in introductory biology lecture, lab, or honors courses designed to actively engage life-science majors in three-dimensional learning; training, supervising, and evaluating GTAs and ULAs; and working collaboratively in teams to develop and improve curriculum.
