Job-Specific Responsibilities

Reporting to the Associate Director of Admissions, this position is responsible for managing the admissions process for the Doctor of Education Leadership (Ed.L.D.) program from recruitment to yield, including working closely with the program on the interview process. In support of these efforts, we seek candidates who can advise on and assist in executing an EdLD-specific marketing strategy, and who bring ideas and strategies for success in building relationships with contacts and organizations across the country who might serve as talent scouts or partners in our recruitment efforts.

In addition, the Assistant Director of Admissions:

  • Develops and implements strategies to recruit, train, engage, and manage alumni in the Alumni Ambassador Program.
  • Represents HGSE at on-campus, off-campus and virtual events, including developing and facilitating presentations for a wide range of groups.
  • Counsels prospective students regarding degree offerings and admissions process.
  • Serves as liaison between the Admissions Office and degree program faculty directors and administrators, as well as other HGSE offices.
  • Oversees and manages admissions process and committee work for several degree programs, working autonomously and as a team member.
  • Using discretion and judgment, evaluates applications for a portfolio of degree programs.
  • Evaluates academic credentials from international institutions and may assist with the financial certification (i.e. visa) process for admitted international students as needed.
  • Has the opportunity to hire and supervise a graduate assistant, designing the job responsibilities and leading co-curricular professional development programming.
  • As member of Admissions Office team, contributes at all levels as needed and handles special projects as required.

Typical Core Duties

  • Recruit, evaluate, and make recommendations on the selection of candidates for admission
  • Counsel and advise prospective students regarding application process, degree programs and other inquiries; lead information and recruitment sessions
  • Plan and manage and execute, domestic and international recruitment trips to identify and target prospective applicants; develop marketing strategies to attract applicants
  • Prepare and analyze reports to improve outreach and recruitment efforts
  • Develop relationships with university personnel, professional organizations, students, parents, alumni and secondary school staff
  • Represent university as the spokesperson at high level admissions events and/or functions
  • Ensure compliance with university admissions policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations with respect to students’ rights to privacy

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Ability to work evenings/weekends and travel to events is required. Master’s degree and prior admissions experience preferred; attention to detail; excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills; strong presentation skills; ability to work under and meet tight deadlines is essential; demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute as member of team, develop relationships with wide variety of internal and external constituencies, provide high-level of customer service, handle confidential information, balance need to be both detail-oriented and strategic, and work in fast-paced environment. Strong interest in interacting with students and faculty to support graduate level education. Must display good judgment and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and materials.Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, intermediate Excel skills

  • Sitting using near vision use for reading and computer use for extended periods of time
  • Lifting (approximately 20 to 30 pounds), bending, and other physical exertion
