The Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor position in the Reiman School of Finance starting September 1, 2021. DU is the oldest independent university in the Rocky Mountain region, with approximately 11,500 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The Reiman School is home to the largest undergraduate major in the Daniels College, a popular finance undergraduate minor, and a Masters Degree in Applied Quantitative Finance. Finance is also a very popular concentration in Daniels Masters of Business Administration programs. The Reiman School offers rigorous academic instruction, enjoys strong alumni and industry support and has 16 full-time faculty members.

Position Summary
The Teaching Assistant Professor in the Reiman School of Finance is a non-tenure track line and is expected to teach nine courses throughout the academic year, which may include summer, fall, winter, or spring quarters. The Reiman School offers a wide variety of finance coursework, spanning corporate finance, investments, financial markets & institutions, international finance, and special topics and travel classes. Teaching responsibilities may include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using traditional, hybrid, hyflex, and online delivery methods. Teaching responsibilities may involve both day and night classes and evenings and weekends.

At the Assistant Teaching Professor rank, the appointment is initially a one-year contract, renewable up to an additional two years pending satisfactory performance. Additional contracts may be awarded following a formal performance review. Position is expected to begin on September 1, 2021.

Faculty members are expected to participate in department and college faculty meetings and engage in service activities. Working effectively and collegially with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and/or community members is an integral part of the job responsibility.

Essential Functions
Teaching: The University of Denver follows the quarter system, where classes meet for 10 weeks during the fall, winter and spring quarters followed by a final exam period. There may also be opportunities to teach during the 10 week summer quarter and/or courses in the Colleges online MBA Program. Professors are expected to attend all scheduled class sessions and to be involved in curriculum and pedagogy development, creating learning objectives, syllabi creation and management, timely and consistent grading, classroom management, student advising, student meetings and mentoring, testing/quizzes, instruction assessment, and professional development in educational topics. Teachers are also expected to be responsive in student communications.

Research/Scholarship: Intellectual contributions are valued, however, research and publications are not a core component of this position.

Service: The individuals who fill these positions will be expected to participate in the academic life of the Reiman School of Finance and Daniels College faculty meetings, assurance of learning, curriculum development, and the advising of students.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in finance or a finance-related discipline.
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence in at least one of the major areas of finance (corporate finance, investments, financial markets & institutions, international finance, or wealth management).
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of multiculturalism, diversity, and inclusivity which may be demonstrated through involvement and participation in projects and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD or DBA in finance or a finance-related discipline.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in at least two of the major areas of finance (corporate finance, investments, financial markets & institutions, international finance, or wealth management).
  • Relevant professional experience in finance or finance-related areas.
  • Active in the business community (e.g. through association membership, consulting, publications, presentations, etc.).

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $60,000 – $70,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
