Carnegie Mellon University — Assistant Dean of Diversity, Inclusion, Climate and Equity

The Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy seeks an Assistant Dean of Diversity, Inclusion, Climate and Equity with the capacity to provide leadership, strategic oversight, and practical programmatic guidance at Heinz College’s top-ranked schools of Information Systems and Public Policy. The Assistant Dean, DICE will provide direction, coordination, consultation, partnership, and vision in support of the College’s efforts to build a diverse, equitable and inclusive learning and work environment for all members of its community.

Employing a hands-on approach, this strategic new position will be dedicated to building College capacities and advancing awareness of DICE issues and standard methodologies among students, staff and faculty. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the goals set forth in the Heinz College DEI strategic plan, tracking progress toward those goals, and actively communicating progress and benchmarks to College constituencies.

Candidates should be passionate about incorporating the values of diversity, inclusion, climate and equity into our programs and activities. You will work in collaborative and dynamic ways with diverse partner constituencies consisting of faculty, staff, students, alumni and various internal and external College and University partners serving as a resource for relevant information and direction.

The Assistant Dean will be responsible for developing holistic and integrated plans for DICE strategies and initiatives to ensure that every member of the College community is afforded the opportunity to study and work in an environment free of bias. Other responsibilities will include collaborating with program directors and admissions staff to build pipelines for a diverse student body, building relationships with community and civic organizations, non-profits, and diverse corporate partners, supporting College-wide HR initiatives, and building data-driven mechanisms to evaluate DICE efforts across Heinz College.

  • Bachelor’s degree required in a related field of study required; Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • Minimum of eight years of professional, in-depth experience in, and a detailed understanding of, complex and intersectional issues related to inclusion, equity and diversity as they relate to the student experience and the workplace required; advanced degrees may be substituted for experience.
  • Experience developing and facilitating DICE-related operating plans within a higher education or related context; assessment experience strongly preferred.
