Massachusetts Institute of Technology — Financial Administrator

MIT Open Learning seeks a Financial Administrator to oversee and report on the financial performance of several business units and manage a varied portfolio of sponsored awards.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the development of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
  • Act as a resource on transactional inquiries and financial/budgetary questions.
  • Work closely with the financial operations team to ensure support for day-to-day financial operations and internal controls.
  • Assist with pre-award activities.
  • Communicate financial reporting to principal investigators (PIs) and project leads.
  • Strategize with business unit leads and PIs on resource allocation, effort/salary allocations across projects, and coordinating payroll changes.
  • Process budget revisions, no-cost extensions, and amendments.
  • Assist PIs with financial reporting requirements to various funding organizations.
  • Interpret award terms and conditions and provide guidance on systems, policies and procedures, and compliance.
  • Ensure financial compliance with university policies/procedures and applicable legal rules/regulations.
  • Perform related duties and/or complete special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, preferably finance, accounting, or business administration.
  • At least five years’ accounting/finance experience, preferably including experience with federal contracts and financial administration in an academic research environment.
  • Knowledge of federal guidelines.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, time-management, organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Discretion with confidential information.
  • Flexible.
  • Strong data management and Excel skills, including experience with querying and pivot tables and extensive formulaic knowledge.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage numerous projects with varying degrees of complexity.
  • Ability to identify and recommend solutions to complex problems.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and operate effectively in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SAP, Tableau, Kuali COEUS
