College of DuPage in Illinois Partners With Two Historically Black Universities

The College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, has entered into a partnership with historically Black Florida A&M University and historically Black Kentucky State University, that will create a pathway for students who earn an associate’s degree at the college to seamlessly transfer to the HBCUs to pursue a bachelor’s degree.

The College of DuPage is a public community college that enrolls about 23,000 students. African Americans make up 7 percent of the student body. The College of DuPage is the largest public community college in the state of Illinois. The college grants seven associate degrees and offers more than 170 career and technical certificates in over 50 areas of study.

Mark Curtis- Chávez, provost at the College of DuPage, stated that “after meeting with local leaders and analyzing our own data, I learned that many of the college’s Black student population transfer to HBCUs without completing their associate degree. These agreements open a new streamlined pathway for our students to transfer to some of the finest, historical institutions in the country.”
