Appalachian State University invites interested applicants for the position of Coordinator for Member Services to become a part of the University Recreation (UREC) team as we facilitate an inclusive environment where recreation and wellness opportunities transform, engage, and care for the App State community. This position is directly responsible for the overall management and coordination of all membership programs at the Student Recreation Center (SRC) & Quinn Recreation Center.  This includes but it is not limited to membership outreach, engagement, orientation, appreciation, and assessment. Additionally the Coordinator of Member Services provides leadership for the UREC student employee recruitment and on-boarding experience. The Coordinator for Member Services supervises and provides development opportunities to a team of 25-30 student employees. This position directly reports to the Associate Director of Operations.

You will have the opportunity to:
Member Services

  • Design and lead a new Membership Game Plan that will standardize the way in which University Recreation welcomes new members into our facilities, programs, and services.
  • Perform membership assessments including the coordination and compilation of statistical data including membership revenue and expenses, membership retention, and membership satisfaction.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

  • Hold self, students, and staff members accountable to departmental expectations of creating an inclusive environment at UREC facilities.
  • Promote inclusive ways to advocate for the needs of all students.
  • Maintain sensitivity to different perspectives and identities.
  • Challenge cultural norms to explore change.

Staff Development

  • Develop, coordinate, and lead student development opportunities that focus on the growth and development of student employability skill sets.
  • Actively engage in reflection of personal identity and how it influences work with students and colleagues, which includes professional development opportunities.
  • Recruit, retain, and mentor a diverse crew of 25-30 Member Service student staff that represent the App State community.

Student Employees Experience

  • Develop, manage, and coordinate the overall UREC Student Employee Onboarding Program including Student Employee Orientation, Student Employee Meet and Greets, and Student Employee Welcome to the UREC.
  • Design and implement departmental staff appreciation initiatives.
  • Collaborate and coordinate Outreach Sessions with on-campus partners such as University Housing, Student Engagement and Leadership, Admissions, etc. to inform and educate students about University Recreation facilities, programs, and services.

Fiscal Management

  • Ensure continuity in departmental and university business practices across all areas of Facility Operations (i.e Cash Handling and PCI Compliance, Incident / Accident Reporting, Member Confidentiality and Information Security, Member and Student Misconduct, etc.)
  • Budget, track, and reconcile all expenses related to the Member Services Program on a monthly basis.
  • Assist in the annual budgeting process for University Recreation. This includes developing, forecasting, and reporting on revenues and expenses related to your administrative area. Total budgetary oversight is $309,000 within a $4 million budget.

Risk Management

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe environment for individuals who participate in University Recreation facilities, programs, and services.
  • Provide ongoing risk management training for the Member Services staff.

Technology

  • Develop Standard Operating Procedures and Training Materials for Fusion Point-of-Sale Transactions, Activity Registrations, Equipment Rentals, and Facility Reservations.

At a minimum you should have: 

  • Demonstrated proof track of active working involvement on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sport Management, Athletic Administration, Business Administration, Kinesiology, or related field.
  • Experience in similar position in a college setting: one (1) year as a full time professional or two (2) years as a Graduate Assistant

The preferred candidate will have:
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the following areas:

  • Master’s Degree in Recreation, Sport Management, Athletic Administration, Business Administration, Kinesiology, or related field.
  • Providing student leadership development opportunities in a college recreation setting.
  • Programming or service delivery for underrepresented community populations.
  • Direct personnel management experience of student employee teams: recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating.
  • Managing Innosoft Fusion software application platform
  • Nurturing and developing collaborations across multiple departments
  • Active engagement in NIRSA, NASPA, ACPA, AORE, or other higher education professional associations.
