THE POSITION:
As the Director of Multicultural Student Services leads initiatives and programs supporting ESS and WWU’s strategic goals in equity, excellence, and inclusion for our students. You will develop and lead co-curricular programs supporting holistic student development, including programming which centers racial and ethnic identities, experiences, and histories, intercultural communication, dialogue, and conflict resolution, inclusive celebrations, and transformational learning. In this position, you will develop responsive and inclusive structures and services to support the development of students of many salient identities, including (but not limited to) racial, ethnic, and gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities and disabilities. As the Director, you will collaborate with many partners across campus to expand Western’s capacity to support and serve students effectively, and to increase access and persistence to graduation. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a discipline such as, but not limited to, Higher Education Administration, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Area Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Human Services/Social Work, Political Science, Equity and Diversity in Law, Policy Studies, or related field 
  • Minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience working in higher education or a related field 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, design and implement programs, curricular and co-curricular activities, seminars, trainings, and events 
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with students of color, including leadership in promoting equity and inclusion, and working effectively with diverse populations across many salient identities 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current literature and theory of student development, creating inclusive environments, and anti-oppression work. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with equity and social justice issues facing historically and currently marginalized communities, including examining the differential impacts of intersectional identity 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with broad and diverse groups of faculty, staff, students, and community members 
  • Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution, intercultural communication, and group dynamics 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions that align with organizational mission and goals 
  • Demonstrated experience working in a high-energy, sometimes stressful environment, with many competing priorities and deadlines 
  • Demonstrated fiscal management skills, including experience monitoring budgets 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional experience in a college or university Multicultural Student Services office or program 
  • Professional experience with higher education policies and procedures, structures, and systems 
  • Proficiency using social media platforms for outreach, research and/or communication

SALARY:
$82,800 – $96,600 commensurate experience with an excellent benefits package.
