University of Oregon School of Law — Assistant Dean for Student Affairs

Position Summary

The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs provides leadership for the area of student affairs with a focus on student success. This position is responsible for direct student advising, support, and services including academic advising, financial aid and scholarship support, execution of assigned accommodations, wellness programming, coordination of orientation, administration of bar support programs and planning for commencement.

This position will serve as advisor to the Moot Court Board. The Assistant Dean also serves as the law school’s Deputy Title IX officer. They will serve as the law school’s primary liaison with several University of Oregon departments such as Financial Aid, Conduct and Community Standards, the Accessible Education Center, and the Office of Investigations and Civil Rights Compliance. This position supervises the Student Services Support Specialist and manages multiple related budgets.

The Assistant Dean has a key role in interpreting and implementing faculty and university legislation regarding students, and sits on several school, university, and bar committees. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs/Law Dean of Students. Working occasional weekends and evenings is required of this position as well as regional travel.

Minimum Requirements

  • JD from ABA-accredited law school
  • Five years of professional experience working with students in a higher education environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bar licensure in any jurisdiction (need not be current)
  • Experience working with law students in an advisory capacity
  • Experience working in a student affairs department or other student-facing departments such as accessible education, academic support, or conduct
  • Supervisory experience or demonstration of skills that exhibit supervisory potential
  • Experience assessing programmatic needs and successfully implementing new initiatives
  • Event-planning experience with large-scale events such as orientation and commencement
  • Experience working in student-focused online platforms such as Engage, Navigate, OrgSync, Symplicity, Canvas, etc.
