The University of Alabama at Birmingham — Visiting Assistant Professor of Public History

The History Department and the African American Studies Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham invite applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Public History and African American studies, beginning August 2021. This is a two-year appointment, and the teaching load will be three classes per semester. The successful candidate will teach in Public History and in African American Studies (broadly conceived) and will supervise the public history internship programs in both departments. The applicant should have a demonstrated record of teaching effectiveness and of mentoring undergraduate students, as well as experience with on-line instruction. Area of expertise is open, but we are especially interested in candidates with a specialization and/or professional experience in local history, oral history, historical preservation, and race and public health. Candidates must have an advanced degree in History, African American Studies, or a related field in hand at the time of appointment. Strong commitment to teaching and service is required.
