Job Description:
SUNY Empire State College’s Information Technology Services seeks an Educational Technologist (EdTech) to support and provide training on educational technologies for faculty, staff, and students with emphasis on special projects. The incumbent will collaborate with faculty, administration, and staff to advance the educational goals of the curriculum through purposeful use of technology and multimedia tools. The EdTech seeks to improve access to engaging and high-quality technology-enhanced learning opportunities to students across SUNY Empire and SUNY through partnerships. EdTechs work with faculty to enhance teaching and learning by introducing new and emerging educational technologies supported by the college, consult with faculty to develop and implement pedagogically sound materials or tools for instructional use, design and deliver workshops and trainings for online tools and media and reach out to faculty and staff with individualized approaches.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for proposing, developing, planning, coordinating and facilitating training opportunities and resources related to educational technology.
  • Provide support to faculty and instructional designers in the creation, migration, and implementation of courses through the LMS and related educational technology tools
  • Create and maintain an educational technology training program mapping to special projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Leverage emerging educational technologies, learning science research, and learning analytics to support the design, evaluation and enhancement of learning experiences
  • Create media using a wide range of multimedia software including, but not limited to, audio, video, web, and animation software to develop materials for courses.
  • Evaluate and ensure integrations of educational technology tools with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and Student Information System (SIS)
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to educational technologies for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Perform technical audits of course content
  • Collaborate with team members to plan short- and long-term projects and participate in implementing strategic initiatives
  • Maintain records related to educational technology usage in courses
  • Work on special projects as deemed relevant and be available as needed for technical and other support during critical periods

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited US university or comparable non-US university
  • 1-3 years of experience working in education/higher education settings with significant experience in instructional/educational technology or instruction
  • Proficiency in a variety of educational technologies, including learning management systems, audiovisual editing hardware and software, and graphic design tools used in higher education
  • Strong communication and interaction skills to assess user needs and provide appropriate support
  • Effective presentation skills in communicating technical information to non-technical personnel
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Experience with E-Learning development software such as Articulate Storyline and Rise
  • Able to organize, categorize, and prioritize workload effectively and efficiently under minimal supervision
  • Able to foster cooperative relationships with a diverse academic community, including instructional designers and faculty

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in education, technology, digital media, or instructional technology/design, or related academic field
  • Knowledge of adult learning, instructional design methodology, technology-mediated learning, and learning theory
  • Proficiency with Articulate authoring software and other software for developing SCORM content
  • Understanding of universal design, accessibility and assistive technologies in higher education
  • Understanding of project management principals and experience tracing and documenting workflow

Special Information:

  • This is a temporary 1-year position with possibility of renewal pending continued funding
  • This position could be based in any SUNY Empire location across the state
  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position

Additional Information:

Rank/Salary:  Instructional Support Associate-SL2/$50,000.
