Shippensburg University — Strategic Marketing and Content Service Manager

Shippensburg University is currently searching for a Strategic Marketing and Content Services Manager. The anticipated starting salary range is $57,000 – $60,000 annually, depending on experience, and includes an extensive benefits package.

The strategic marketing and creative services manager will plan, create, manage, integrate and evaluate a comprehensive content program across external and internal platforms (including admissions, alumni, and academic affairs) from concept through delivery. The manager relates the university’s digital and print content (web, social media, advertising, and marketing) to the institution’s mission, goals, and strategic direction statements, thereby fostering understanding, influence, and support for the university as well as contributing to the university’s recognition and regard among various constituencies. The manager also serves as the university’s content editor. The manager will oversee and coordinate the hiring of writers, editors, and any contractors whose skills are required to meet the needs of both print and digital publications. The manager will be responsible for project management and updates or improvements to editorial production and process.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and manages an annual publications plan that supports the broader university efforts in concert with the goals and strategic direction of the university.
  • Evaluates and implements guidelines, and procedures, and conducts editorial meetings with key constituents for established new projects, and participates in necessary staff meetings. May also supervise employee as well as potential interns, GAs, student workers, and freelance writers.
  • In conjunction with the creative services manager, works with administrative and academic departments to determine the purpose, target audience, budget, and distribution of all university internal and external (contracted) publications both digital and print. Writes and edits prepared publications developed out of the Office of Communications and Marketing.
  • Serves as managing editor of Shippensburg University Magazine, published three times a year, providing university-related and general interest articles and information to alumni, the university community, business leaders, legislators, and parents. Conducts editorial meetings and coordinates the work of staff, interns, and freelance writers, commercial designers, printers, and mailing services. Evaluates publication through periodic readership surveys and peer review. Recommends and manages digital delivery platform.
  • Oversees consistent adherence to university approved editorial style guides for all internal and external university publications. Recommends updates as needed.
  • Serves on university committees and performs other related duties as assigned by the director of communications and marketing.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing or a related field and a minimum of five years of related professional experience. Excellent writing and editing skills are required along with proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud. Candidates must possess demonstrated ability to initiate and complete projects on schedule along with well-developed organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience with web publishing, as well as a concentrated background or working knowledge of marketing, graphic design, photography and illustration are preferred qualifications. Successful performance in an on-campus interview is required.
