Racist Graffiti Found on the Campuses of Northern Kentucky and Kent State Universities

A mural painted on a rock at Northern Kentucky University that contained support for Black student organizations was vandalized with the logo of the Patriot Front, a white supremacist group.  This is the second time this year the Patriot Front had posted graffiti on campus.

“NKU will not tolerate the white supremacy graffiti defacing our campus today or any day. This latest act of vandalism is contrary to our core values and our commitment to fostering a more equitable, inclusive environment in which everyone is valued and free from discrimination of any kind,” said Ashish Vaidya, president of Northern Kentucky University.

African Americans make up 6 percent of the nearly 12,000 member undergraduate student body at the university.

The N-word was found scrawled on a plaque on the campus of Kent State University in Ohio. African Americans make up 9 percent of the undergraduate student body at the university’s main campus.

Todd Diacon, president of Kent State said that “this act of vandalism comes from a place of hate, and Kent State will not tolerate it. The Kent State Police Department was immediately made aware of the incident and has begun a criminal investigation. To our Black students, faculty, and staff, we realize the pain and hurt that this causes. Please know that we support you. We look forward to the day when we no longer have to send such messages. Actions like this only reaffirm our values and our commitment to being an anti-racist campus. We call on everyone in our Kent State community to be agents of positive social change so we can create a better world for all of us. We ask that you step up as allies and continue to educate yourselves in order to counter racism and discrimination on all of our campuses.”
