North Carolina Central University Names Its Next Provost

David H. Jackson Jr. has been appointed provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at North Carolina Central University. He will begin his new duties at NCCU on July 1, 2021.

Currently, Dr. Jackson serves as associate provost for graduate education and dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Research, and Continuing Education at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University in Tallahassee. He has held that position since 2015. Dr. Jackson began his academic career at FAMU in 1997 with his appointment as assistant professor of history. Shortly after, he was promoted to associate professor and full professor and was later elected chair of the department of history, political science, public administration, geography, and African American studies.

Dr. Jackson is the author or editor of six books including A Chief Lieutenant of the Tuskegee Machine: Charles Banks of Mississippi (University Press of Florida, 2002) and Booker T. Washington and the Struggle Against White Supremacy: The Southern Educational Tours, 1908–1912 (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008)

After earning a bachelor’s degree in history education and a master of public administration degree at Florida AMM University, Dr. Jackson earned a Ph.D. in history at the University of Memphis.
