RIT’s Global Cybersecurity Institute research initiatives bring together a range of expertise from across the university to understand and address real-world challenges in cybersecurity and to prepare the next generation of cybersecurity experts. The research programs are highly interdisciplinary and human centered to ensure that the security knowledge is driven by the computing users. Detailed Job Description
The Project and Operations Manager will coordinate competition hosting through the Cyber Range, provide project management and customer interaction oversight and support new customer development in the Eaton Cybersecurity SAFE Lab, and interface with & work with companies who will hire and place graduates from Cyber Range professional training as well as send their employees for training on our Cyber Range. A successful candidate will be able to understand and support the needs of cybersecurity employers while providing overarching project management that brings together teams of students, faculty, external volunteers, and technical staff to support expanding CPTC and other world-class cyber competitions and Eaton SAFE Lab engagements.

This position will also be expected to lead a team of student employees who will assist with projects, work with external strategic partners, and RIT organizational partners.

This position reports to the Producer and Business Director for the Cyber Range in RIT's Global Cybersecurity Institute (GCI).

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for requirements engineering: gather technical requirements from Cyber Range, SAFE Lab, and Cyber Competitions clients and convert those into detailed task lists and timelines for technical teams
  • Responsible for job placement for Cyber Range professional training graduates; coordinate mock interviews, job faires, engage external companies for needs analysis.
  • Marketing, communications, publication, scheduling, and coordination of volunteers/faculty/staff/competitors for global, national, regional and local cyber competitions.
  • Project management and customer interaction leading or supporting new/existing customer contracts for the Eaton Cybersecurity SAFE Lab
  • Lead or support corporate engagements to book companies that will send their employees for training in our Cyber Range
  • User experience testing and analysis as well as engagement with participants during cyber range events
  • Work with faculty, staff, and organizations across RIT in addition to vendors and outside companies to meet the overall goals of the cyber range.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience leading requirements engineering/voice-of-customer discovery
  • At least one year experience with technology project management


  • Familiar with cyber security tools, techniques, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise and/or exceptional potential in project and operations management, specifically relating to penetration testing and security evaluation.
  • Demonstrated expertise and/or exceptional potential in project and operations management, specifically relating to software development and engineering orchestration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cybersecurity job placement.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent a global organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to find and recruit student talent for project fulfillment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Dedication to learning and advancing your skills.
  • Ability to design and troubleshoot business processes for organizational improvement.
  • Ability to work within a team setting.


  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with external organizations that lead to scholarships and increased involvement with the Global Cybersecurity Institute
  • Master’s degree in Business
  • Three to five years of experience with project management
  • Three to five years of experience working in operations management within IT or computing infrastructure (Servers, Storage, Network, and/or Security)
