New Administrative Duties Have Been Assigned to Five African Americans in Higher Education

Barkley Barton II has been selected as the new director of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Georgia. His appointment is effective May 1, 2021. He was associate director of admissions at the University of Notre Dame. Earlier, he held admissions positions at the University of Minnesota, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and several other universities.

Barton is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Chatanooga, where he majored in mass communication. He holds a master’s degree in higher education administration from Bay Path University in Massachusetts.

Krista L. Cortes has been appointed director of La Casa Latina, the main hub for Latinx students at the University of Pennsylvania. She has been a graduate teaching assistant at the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Cortes, who identifies as Afro-Puerto Rican, is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where she majored in foreign service. She holds master’s degrees in language and literacy and teacher education from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in education from the University of California, Berkeley.

Dee Frazier was appointed director of athletics at Clinton College in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He has been serving as a coach for the men’s basketball team at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.

Frazier holds an associate’s degree from Clinton College. He earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies at Valdosta State University in Georgia.

Ollie Green III is the new chief information security officer at the University of Pittsburgh. He has been working at nThrive, a leader in revenue cycle management software development for hospitals and health care systems. He is the former chief information security officer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Greene holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an MBA from the Unversity of Louisville.

Kerry Stevenson was appointed vice president of development for athletic programs and scholarships at Miles College in Fairfield, Alabama. He was director of player development for the football program at the University of Alabama.

Stevenson received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in math education from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University.
