DIRECTOR, FINANCIAL AID
Salary Range: $60,000 – 70,000

Position Purpose

The Director of Financial Aid is a key member of the Financial Aid department, responsible for a wide range of functions within the department. The position is instrumental in the College's efforts to implement new processes to support its growth and objectives. The position will be responsible for the day-to-day operations within the department, including management of its employees and actively participating in the daily work of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities

ADMINISTERS THE FUNCTIONS AND SERVICES DELIVERED BY THE FINANCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT: Oversee all aspects of financial aid programs including compliance with all regulations: ensure the delivery of financial counseling, advising and assistance to the many clients of the unit; cause the creation of and is responsible for the implementation of programming and systems to meet the needs of students, families and others in need of financial services; maintain department integrity and professionalism.

MANAGES THE DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS OF THE UNIT: Manage the workflow of the unit to ensure that all programs, systems and duties are accomplished in a timely manner; schedule and adjust duties and assignments as necessary to accomplish the needs of the unit.

MANAGES THE PERSONNEL EMPLOYED WITHIN THE UNIT: Directly responsible for the output, workflow, and level of activity of unit employees; ensure employee compliance with all federal, state and institutional regulations and mandates; oversee employee performance and all aspects of both bargaining unit contracts as they apply to said employees.

ACTIVELY PARTICIPATES IN THE DAILY WORK OF THE UNIT: Actively works to support the efforts of the department by overseeing and/or completing the following: Cost of Attendance (COA) calculations, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) reviews, SAP appeals, maintaining the financial aid application, compiling annual FISAP, and responding to requests related to audits. The director is also expected to assist staff during peak times, potentially including packaging students, meeting with families to discuss financial aid options, etc.

SERVES AS A MEMBER OF THE COLLEGE ADMINISTRATION GROUP: Represent the unit at the administrative level; maintain unit integrity within the scope of the mission of the college; ensure compliance with management directives and procedures; foster Learner-Centered activities and operations.

REPORTING: Responsible for accurate and timely submission of Gainful Employment Reporting, reports related to the seat ready status and financial aid packaging progress of students, and providing requested reports to management and other departments.

WORKING WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS: Ensure strong collaboration between various departments of the college, including the admissions and fiscal departments.

IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS ENFORCEMENT DEPARTMENT: Serve as the Principle Designated School Official (PDSO): PDSO is a Designated School Official that serves as the main point of contact related to SEVP – certified school and can nominate an appropriate number of DSO's based on the school's specific needs. According to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department, as a Designated School Official (DSO), Federal law and regulations required you to update and maintain the SEVIS records of non-immigrant students in F and M visa categories. Automatic SEVIS functions occur after the legal time limits to update student records. They do not extend the legal time limits and are not intended to replace timely action by a DSO to comply with reporting responsibilities.

Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and ensuing Hocking College is in compliance as outlined by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department. SEVIS Reporting Requirements for Designated School Officials http://www.ice.gov/sevis/dso-requirements.

PEFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: Engage in professional development activities including training necessary to maintain required skills associated with financial aid.

Qualifications – Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Master degree preferred, Bachelor degree required in business or related field and/or has significant experience in financial aid, management, finance, account management, customer relations or business operations.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of administrative experience in student financial aid programs in a comprehensive community college or university.
  • Demonstrated experience in organizing, developing, and implementing operational systems and writing guidelines in an educational setting and managing a high volume workflow office.
  • Demonstrated experience of positive and proactive approaches in identifying problems, creating innovative solutions, managing projects, leading teams through collaboration, and implementing efficiencies and effectiveness using technology.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage tasks, functions and personnel.
  • Ability to design and oversee integrated financial aid and operational systems, experience with Ellucian Colleague is preferred.
  • Possess a strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to manage in a regulatory environment.
  • Strong information technology skills and abilities.
  • Ability to work alternate or flexible work schedules as needed.
  • Tactful, positive interpersonal skills, cooperative attitude; attention to detail, good communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle conflict and stress and resolve situations in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated positive attitude toward the mission of the College and its clients.
