Job Summary

The Teaching and Learning Lab (TLL) within Academic Affairs is seeking a Senior Media Producer to develop, refine, and implement a cohesive media strategy for projects in the TLL portfolio. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a can-do attitude. They will possess the ability to communicate at all levels in a professional and respectful manner and will be comfortable representing our portfolio and work products to a variety of stakeholders. Through their contributions, the Senior Media Producer will help ensure that our work is consistently aligned with the broader mission of the Teaching and Learning Lab and HGSE.

Under the direction of the Associate Director of Learning Design and Technology, the person in this role will serve as a creative lead through all phases of media development: planning, storytelling, production, post-production, and distribution. The Senior Media Producer will be a skilled video director and will be able to make faculty clients feel at ease in front of the camera. By staying abreast of current research and applications in educational media development, this individual will act as a creative liaison with project teams by advising on best practices and ensuring consistency in design principles.

The Senior Media Producer will have experience managing educational media projects and will be excited to explore emerging research and innovations around using media to enhance teaching and learning. Experience managing multiple projects within a higher education setting is extremely helpful.

In addition to the above requirements, this position requires strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, proficiency in working with learning management systems, learning technologies, and media production platforms as well as the ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize while maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality under deadline pressure. The ideal candidate is an exceptionally organized, collaborative and entrepreneurial individual.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: This position reports to the Associate Director of Learning Design and Technology in the Teaching and Learning Lab.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

The Senior Media Producer will supervise contract media producers, temp media staff, and students.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

Media Production and Management 40%

  • Works with project stakeholders to understand and capture objectives
  • Manages production workflow and deadlines for multiple projects
  • Builds and continually improves processes that facilitate the demands of a growing digital portfolio
  • Oversees resource planning and allocation based on project priorities
  • Ensures proactive scheduling of key deliverables, milestones and related tasks
  • Escalates key issues and risks to ensure timely resolution and mitigation
  • Fosters strong working relationships with key project stakeholders
  • Regularly communicates progress toward project milestones
  • Uses metrics to drive efficiency and forecast improvements
  • Champions best practices in digital asset management

Coaching and Team Development 20%

  • Develops and delivers workshops focused on media literacy
  • Mentors students in practicum courses such at T127
  • Serves as talent coach for faculty and staff who are new to being on camera
  • Advocates for best practices in media selection and design process
  • Serves as in-house expert for effective and engaging ways of integrating media in learning experiences
  • Collaboratively sets standards for quality and style across all of our media offerings and coaches media team members on achieving those standards

Media Design and Strategy 40%

  • Advocates for best practices related to use of media in teaching and learning
  • Has deep familiarity with all aspects of asset development for use in learning experiences
  • Has strong understanding of video technologies, video production processes and emerging video platforms
  • Has a mindset of continuous improvement and a focus on intentional experimentation to generate fresh ideas
  • Oversees the TLL media portfolio to ensure consistency in quality and implementation of best practices
  • Works collaboratively with media team and learning designers to develop style guides and templates to make existing processes more efficient

Additional Duties:

  • Contributes to the collaborative, innovative culture of the Teaching and Learning Lab
  • Interfaces with learning designers to plan, prioritize, and implement project objectives
  • Represents the TLL both within and outside of HGSE and the University
  • Engages in continuous development regarding the scholarship of teaching and learning, best practices of educational media design and strategy, and the state of current and emerging learning technologies

Anyone hired from out of state must be located in Massachusetts no later than August 31st.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable experience leading design and development of educational media products/experiences
  • Demonstrated experience with video editing process and video editing software
  • Willingness to work extra hours during peak periods, including occasional evenings and weekends

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s Degree in Education or a related field
  • Proven experience creating compelling educational video content
  • Have a passion for storytelling
  • Deep knowledge of learning design principles and practices
  • Ability to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work setting
  • Ability to work autonomously and exercise judgement while keeping his or her supervisor fully informed of all project developments
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively in a highly distributed team environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Dependability, flexibility, sense of humor, and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Superb interpersonal skills, specifically listening, consulting, and influencing
  • Strong problem solving skills
