Fontbonne University’s Department of Nursing invites applications for a full-time staff member to join the department in May 2021. Fontbonne has received initial approval from the Missouri State Board of Nursing to begin a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in Fall 2021, pending a successful site visit. Under direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing Education, the individual will provide technical and functional support for all simulation operations, including but not limited to, maintenance and repair of computerized manikins (software and hardware). This position will also be responsible for placing students into assigned clinical rotations by collaborating with faculty, staff, and students in developing and implementing plans for student clinical placements by interfacing requests with program requirements.

  • Understand the use and operation of different simulator technology.
  • Serve as simulator operator running pre-programmed scenarios with faculty instructors, ensuring all equipment is set up for course programs.
  • Support/assist in role-playing applications, props placement and moulage set-up.
  • Provide technical assistance, support and training to faculty, instructors and staff in use of simulation equipment, as necessary.
  • Prepare and refresh learning labs for skills training as formally requested by teaching faculty.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and conduct routine inventory updates.
  • Provide recommendations for budgeting and purchase of equipment, supplies and materials.
  • Conduct ongoing maintenance of all simulation equipment, including cleaning, repairing, ensuring that all equipment is always maintained in good working order.
  • Maintain record of repairs required and completed.
  • Interface with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems.
  • Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs and operation manuals.
  • Participate in technical training as necessary.
  • Assist with special projects or initiatives as needed.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing Education in equipment budgeting.
  • Assist faculty with the development of new skills modules.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Secure student placements based upon program requests and available sites for the clinical experience requirements on a semester-by-semester basis.
  • Work closely with the faculty and students and maintain and coordinate ongoing communication through meetings and e-mails for updates on any changes in current placements and progress toward making future placements.
  • Maintain record of all student eligibility for clinical placement (i.e. vaccinations, BLS certification, attestation letters, etc.) and keep faculty and students apprised of current student qualifications and criteria.
  • Identify issues and concerns with placements and assist those involved in appropriate resolution.
  • Update placement database with student and school information.
  • Assist with preparation of administrative reports and documents relating to placements and data management.
  • Represent the nursing department by planning/participating in/presenting at orientation, meetings, and any additional workshops/orientations as needed.
  • Assist with distribution of internal and external surveys/reports.
  • Attend meetings and participate in professional development/training activities.

  • Associate’s degree in a related field AND two (2) years of administrative or teaching experience in field; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
  • Previous experience in simulation lab.
  • Knowledge of patient simulation, technologies and applications.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to simulator functions.
  • Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software for recording, duplication, mixing and editing.
  • Ability to learn new software and hardware quickly and independently.
  • Ability to assess, troubleshoot, and fix equipment failures in a timely fashion.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, technology, or health-related field.
  • RN, EMT, Paramedic, or Certified Respiratory Therapist.
  • Proficiency in MS software applications including MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Internet and database applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding job assignments and sensitive issues.
  • Ability to work with internal and external individuals from different disciplines and different levels of training.
  • Self-motivated and ability to work effectively in team environment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic environment; able to work evenings/weekends on as- needed basis.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all education degree program objectives, course sequencing and individual course clinical experience requirements.
  • Experience in working effectively in an environment subject to limited supervision requiring independent decision making.
  • Experience in presenting information to students and school officials and managing difficult interpersonal relations issues.
  • Experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated evidence as an advocate of student achievement, teacher quality, and effective professional development.
