Ferris State University — Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education

Ferris State University, in beautiful Big Rapids, Michigan, invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE). Reporting to the new Provost, Dr. Robert P. Fleischman, the Dean will provide leadership and oversight for the largest college at Ferris State University, with approximately 110 faculty across nine departments and more than 8,000 students enrolling in CASE-offered courses each year. The College also supports much of the university’s general education coursework. CASE offers an array of degree programming leading to bachelor of science, bachelor of arts, minors, and associate degrees—as well as certificate programs and master’s degrees in social work, curriculum and instruction, technical education, and educational leadership. CASE also offers specialized degrees and enriching minors in the behavioral, biological, physical, and social sciences; humanities; education; English, literature and world languages; and mathematics.  

The Dean will collaborate with the Provost’s Council and leadership across the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education to implement initiatives in, and aligned with, Ferris Forward, the strategic plan for 2019 – 2024. A successful Higher Learning Commission reaccreditation team in Fall 2020 also provided direction for the university, and the Dean’s role will include interpreting and implementing those suggestions as they relate to academic programs, faculty work, and student success in the college. The Dean will also be expected to implement the goals of the CASE Strategic Plan 2020-2024, and the goals of the institutional Diversity and Inclusion Plan.

Candidates for this position must have hold an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution and academic credentials to merit appointment at the rank of full professor in one of the units within the college. Also required is a successful record of increasingly responsible academic leadership, strong fiscal acumen, and effective personnel management in a complex academic institution.
