Position Summary:
The Department of Curriculum & Instruction in the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at the University of Idaho is seeking an innovative scholar for a full-time (9 month), tenure-track appointment in literacy studies and education beginning August 2021. The Assistant Professor of Literacy will team with faculty, staff, and community partners in ongoing program development and instruction using a deep knowledge of the subject area of literacy and will demonstrate a commitment to the values set forth in the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences C.A.R.E. Framework. The successful candidate will join with faculty in the College who share a strong commitment to increasing equitable learning opportunities in schools and society and building partnerships with Black, Indigenous, and Latinx communities in addressing issues of linguicism, anti-Black racism, anti-Indigeneity, queer justice and ableism. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, expertise in elementary literacy instruction; experience working with multilingual communities and families; and experience partnering with and mentoring elementary educators.

This position is based at the UI Moscow campus.

We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute a strong commitment in scholarship and teaching in diversity and equity initiatives through their teaching, research and service experiences.

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned doctorate by August 2021 in Education.

Evidence of, or potential for, scholarly activity.

At least three years of contracted P-8 literacy teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching and advising students preparing to teach literacy in P-8
school settings.

Design and deliver Curriculum and instruction informed
by cultural proficiency and inclusive pedagogies.

Qualified to teach graduate research methodology courses.

Experience facilitating literacy for English learners.

Experience working with diverse communities, including building partnerships
with historically underserved populations.

Demonstrated scholarship in literacy education.

Experience working the Indigenous literacies, ways of knowing, or Indigenous
language revitalization

Experience with external funding processes.

Experience teaching via distance learning technologies

Experience with technology and its role in education at all levels.

Experience with internal and external collaborative partnerships.
