The University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) – one of the nation’s most dynamic and progressive institutions of higher education, research and health affairs – is seeking an accomplished, collaborative and innovative leader to join UIC’s senior executive team as vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost. The provost serves as the campus’ chief academic officer reporting directly to the chancellor and working in collaboration with the vice chancellor for health affairs. This position provides a unique opportunity to have a significant impact on the future of a diverse research institution in an urban environment.

UIC is one of the nation’s leading research institutions with over $400 million in annual research awards (FY2020). It is the only public Carnegie Very High Research Activity (R1) university in metropolitan Chicago and has faculty deeply engaged in research that promotes the public good, including projects that advance racial and social justice. UIC has one of the most diverse student bodies in the United States (included in the top 30 ethnically diverse universities by US News & World Report) leading to the university’s designation as a Minority Serving Institution (MSI), an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander Serving Institution (AANAPISI), and a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). UIC is also one of the largest employers in the city of Chicago and has nearly 260,000 alumni with 72 percent residing in Illinois.

The provost advises Chancellor Michael D. Amiridis on matters of academic policy, strategic direction, enrollment management and academic resource planning. This individual will partner with the chancellor and the vice chancellor for health affairs to advance UIC’s scholarly achievement and mission of access to excellence; to build collaborative and interdisciplinary endeavors amongst the faculty; to foster creative and innovative activity; and to engage with the community, the city of Chicago, and the state of Illinois. This leadership team will lead UIC in attaining even greater national and international prominence for its programs and initiatives. UIC’s organizational chart can be found at this link.
