George Mason University — Assistant Vice President, Business Services

The George Mason University, Facilities department is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual for an Assistant VP, Business Services for their Facilities Management department. The AVP, Business Services is responsible for leading the business services departments that support the day to day operations of the Facilities organization. These departments include: Contracts and Capital Finance, Budget, IT, Parking and Transportation, and Human Resources and Administration. The total headcount and budget for this group will be approximately 20 employees and $3,000,000. The position will also be responsible for establishing and providing direction on strategic plans and metrics/analytics across the organization and for working across organizations to implement and communicate these plans and metrics.

Required Qualifications:
This position must have experience or an understanding of the functioning of a large scale Facilities organization responsible for the construction of large scale capital projects and how those projects relate to planning and design activities is required, along with a BS degree in Business, Architecture, Engineering or Finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to form and lead multi-disciplinary teams in the areas of responsibility;
  • Ability to support project delivery meeting client quality expectations on time and on budget;
  • Ability to analyze complex financial data and present analysis and recommendations to decision makers of all levels;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers as part of a larger team and organization;
  • Ability to develop standards, policies, procedures and processes.

Preferred Qualifications:
This position should possess an advanced degree in Business, Architecture, or Engineering, or closely related discipline coupled with significant experience (15+ years) managing support departments in a multifunctional organization.

  • Ability to manage professional employees in multi disciplines to include contracts, IT, HR and Finance;
  • Ability to successfully work across department lines with key stakeholders;
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing;
  • Experience in selecting, negotiating, and managing professional services contracts.
