Community College of Erie County — Founding President

The Community College of Erie County (Pennsylvania) Board of Trustees seeks confidential nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Founding President of the College. The Board seeks a dynamic, politically astute and visionary leader who possesses an entrepreneurial spirit and a “glocal” (global and local) perspective. The Founding President will have the enviable and pioneering opportunity to lead an affordable and accessible comprehensive community college that serves the communities located in Erie County.

In July 2020, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania approved the establishment of its fifteenth community college. The Community College of Erie County is the first community college founded in Pennsylvania in 27 years. The president will oversee the development of a college that will provide accessible and affordable post-secondary education to a community that has faced significant socio-economic challenges. The goal is to create a world-class workforce development center that will provide the skills and training that people need to qualify for high skill jobs that pay a living wage. The college will provide employers with a pipeline of promising and talented employees who can drive growth and strengthen businesses. Further, the college will play a role in stemming brain and talent drain from the region, while also improving two to four-year college transition for local students seeking a bachelor’s degree. The college is scheduled to open for the 2021-2022 academic year.

The President is the chief executive officer and reports to the Board of Trustees. Among the qualifications sought for this position is significant, progressively responsible experience in senior management positions in higher education. However, candidates with substantial experience in senior management positions in a field outside of higher education will be considered, where such experience is deemed relevant to the candidate’s capability to serve as a community college president. An earned doctorate is preferred, but the College will consider outstanding candidates who possess an earned Master’s degree.
