Three African Americans Appointed to Administrative Posts at Colleges and Universities

Rebecca Armstrong-English has been named the director of the Office of Alumni Relations at Dillard University in New Orleans. Most recently, Armstrong-English was the founding director of operations at a new middle school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Armstrong-English graduated from Dillard University in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in mass communication.

Sherri Braxton was named the inaugural senior director for digital innovation at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. Dr. Braxton comes to Bowdoin from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she has served as senior director for instructional technology. Before joining UMBC, she served for three years as the director of course redesign at Bowie State University in Maryland.

Dr. Braxton is a graduate of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She holds a master’s degree in computer science from North Carolina State University and a doctorate in computer science from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Jacob Koon was promoted from the director of residential life to the dean of students at Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina. Earlier he served as residential life coordinator, area coordinator, and assistant director of residential life at the college.

Koon is a 2013 graduate of Benedict College, where he majored in music.
