Miami Dade College Appoints Malou C. Harrison as Its New Provost

Malou C. Harrison is the new provost of Miami Dade College in Florida. Dr. Harrison has served as president of the North Campus of Miami Dade College since 2013 after being the dean of students at North Campus for over a decade.

“It’s bittersweet to leave North Campus but the wonderful consolation is that I will continue to serve the wider population of students at Miami Dade College,” Dr. Harrison said. “I’m humbled and excited and I pledge to continue the same level of supportive, collaborative, servant leadership that I have exhibited and for which my colleagues and students have known me for.”

Miami Dade College is one of the largest educational institutions in the country with enrollments of more than 51,000 students. African Americans make up 14 percent of the student body, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education.

Dr. Harrison joined Miami Dade College in 1989 and has had many roles during that time, including serving as chief of staff to the college president, as executive assistant to the president of Wolfson Campus, and as an adjunct professor of English at the Wolfson Campus.

A native of Jamaica, Dr. Harrison earned a bachelor’s degree in management from the State University of New York. She holds a master’s degree in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL) from Florida International University, and a doctorate in higher education/community college leadership from Walden University.

  1. Excellent choice Indeed!

I am a proud alumnus of Miami Dade College and in all the many college admissions that I have had in pursuit of post-graduate studies, theirs is the only institution where ALL my academic credits were always accepted and transferred without reservation.

The institution has always had a stellar academic reputation and record.

I feel very proud of my hometown!
