University of Northern Iowa — Assistant Professor, U.S. History

The University of Northern Iowa’s Department of History seeks applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in U.S. History, with a specialization in African American History and/or the history of race and ethnicity in the United States, or related topics, starting August 2021. The candidate will teach and develop courses in the Department of History as assigned, based on departmental needs in U.S. and African American history, including introductory and general education courses. 

The College of Social and Behavioral Sciences is proud to announce a cluster hire initiative for multiple faculty across a range of disciplines (History, Psychology and Social Work) whose scholarly/creative focus explores the richness of diverse backgrounds, the challenges posed by inequalities, and/or strategies to address issues of access and inclusion. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in U.S. History, African American Studies, or a closely-related field is required by August 1, 2021. Strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education; evidence of potential for developing a significant research agenda; and effective communication skills required.

Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience at the college level and a strong commitment to working collaboratively with diverse faculty, campus, and community stakeholders.
