University of South Carolina Aiken — Chancellor

The University of South Carolina Aiken (UofSC Aiken) seeks a dynamic, innovative, and inspiring higher education executive to serve as its fifth chancellor. The University is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC), one of only eight institutions in the Southeast (among a total of 28 across North America) with this designation. The chancellor will be selected by University of South Carolina President Robert Caslen and is expected to take office on July 1, 2021.

Founded in 1961, UofSC Aiken began as a branch campus of the flagship university in Columbia. In 1977, it became an independently accredited, degree-granting institution. This move made UofSC Aiken the fourth of eight campuses that would eventually comprise the University of South Carolina system.

In September, U.S. News and World Report ranked the university as the top Regional Comprehensive Public College in the South. This 2021 distinction marks UofSC Aiken's 23rd consecutive ranking among the top three in this category. The university has won the first place ranking fifteen times.

More than 3,600 students attend the university, and approximately 500 students graduate each year. UofSC Aiken offers bachelor's and master's degrees in more than 50 programs of study. The university takes pride in delivering the same offerings associated with a large university while remaining student-focused and providing individualized attention to small classes (14:1 student-faculty ratio).

UofSC Aiken currently attracts students from 36 states and 38 countries. At least 34% of its students are first-generation students, and 40% are racial/ethnic minorities.

The commitment to continuing partnerships is woven into the fabric of the campus culture. The next chancellor will continue exciting initiatives, including a $50M Advanced Manufacturing Collaborative facility under construction on campus and the DreamPort Cybersecurity Collaborative, a $15M state-of-the-art hub proposed by the South Carolina National Guard to build on the partnership between the university, the Savannah River National Laboratory, and the South Carolina National Guard.
