Director Economic Development
The position of Director for Economic Development reports to the Vice President for Economic Development.
Position Overview
The Director will be responsible for setting and implementing the strategic vision and associated actions related to Johns Hopkins University's and Johns Hopkins Health System's economic development interests. Work will focus on anchor institution and community strengthening initiatives that support the institution's capacity to realize its off campus operational needs. This position has broad programmatic responsibility for developing and managing economic development actions.
The primary duties and responsibilities of the job:
The Director will lead the Homewood Community Partners Initiative (HCPI) and the East Baltimore Development Initiative (EBDI), and the Johns Hopkins' anchor institution strategy, which includes integrating the HCPI and EBDI into the operations of the university and the fabric of the community; with guidance from the university's office of Communications, crafting a communications plan that ensures consistent messaging and the strengthening of the HCPI and EBDI brands; developing, launching, implementing and managing programs, including cross-cutting, quality of life, blight removal and housing creation, commercial retail development, and local hiring and purchasing; recruiting and engaging the parties necessary to realize the goals of the HCPI and EBDI, including leadership and decision makers from Johns Hopkins and other large institutions, foundations, businesses, nonprofits, and in coordination with the Government and Community Affairs, community representatives; establishing and overseeing the HCPI and EBDI governance structure; administering consulting and other service contracts; creating and implementing administrative policies and procedures within and outside Johns Hopkins that advances the HCPI and EBDI agendas; evaluating the outcomes of the HCPI and EBDI; promoting the HCPI and EBDI locally, regionally, and nationally; determining if and when to consider replicating the HCPI and EBDI at other Johns Hopkins campuses.

During the Influenza (“the flu”) season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.
The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
