Ball State University — Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology (CJC) of Ball State University invites applicants to fill a position at the assistant professor level (tenure-track) for Fall 2021.

The Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology currently has ten tenure-track faculty members and four full-time instructors. The department offers a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and a graduate concentration in Public Administration. The undergraduate program currently has approximately 550 enrolled students. Housed in the College of Sciences and Humanities, the CJC Department is located on the main campus in Muncie, Indiana. The successful candidate will instruct a range of courses related to Criminology and Criminal Justice. Qualified candidates must demonstrate a specialization in the area of policing. Standard teaching load is three courses at three credit hours per course, which may include online courses.

Continuous productive scholarly activity is expected, as well as service involving engagement with the department, college, university profession and, as appropriate, various communities, organizations, or groups.

Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related field from an accredited college, or university by the date of appointment; A.B.D. (All But Dissertation) candidates will be considered.
An active research agenda and/or strong potential for research productivity, as evidenced through research statements. A specialization in policing is required, as evidenced through research or teaching statements.

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates that specialize in the area of policing with a pedagogical approach that includes cultural competence. In addition to policing, preferences will be given to those with subspecialties in Victimology and/or Race and Gender.
A willingness to commit to active engagement in departmental activities, services and initiatives is desirable.
