University of Wisconsin-Madison — Associate Dean, College of Letters & Science – Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity

UW-Madison College of Letters and Science seeks an accomplished and creative professional for the newly created position of Associate Dean for Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity. The successful candidate will work with the Dean, the Dean’s leadership team, and the Equity & Diversity Committee to advance the College’s Inclusive Excellence priorities. The Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion will advise the senior leadership team and lead strategic diversity and inclusion efforts that advance the institutional vision and mission; collaborate with key constituencies to develop and deploy initiatives that contribute to the achievement of diversity and inclusion related goals; contribute to the recruitment, retention, and success of underrepresented faculty, staff and students; support the efforts of College faculty and academic leaders to enhance the College’s curriculum as it pertains to diversity and inclusion; support research initiatives that advance the College’s leadership in scholarship concerning diversity, equity, and inclusion, and; serve as a resource for students, student organizations, faculty, and staff about diversity and inclusion. More specifically, the Associate Dean for Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity will serve on several governance and college committees to advance diversity and develop strategies to increase and support curricular and co-curricular diversity. The person in this position will lead the drafting of a College Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity strategic plan.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate cultural awareness and agility, exercise emotional intelligence, build trust and credibility, collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders, and provide leadership. The candidate will also possess demonstrated maturity, leadership, scholarship, and gravitas to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within a large complex organization. The candidate will have experience and demonstrated success at creating an overarching strategic diversity and inclusion strategy, one that includes recruitment and retention of underrepresented faculty, staff and students of all statuses.

The successful candidate will have the ability to collect and use data to assess the effectiveness of initiatives; outstanding organizational, problem-solving, and program development skills; in-depth, contemporary knowledge of the culture of higher education and the issues of access, inclusion, diversity, equity, and multiculturalism in a higher education setting; and the respect for and understanding of shared governance. The successful candidate will demonstrate a collaborative and transparent leadership style; strong interpersonal skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with and advise students, student organizations, faculty and staff from all backgrounds and identities.
