Two African Americans Appointed to Dean Positions at State Universities

LaKeisha L. Harris has been appointed dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne. Dr. Harris joined the department of rehabilitation faculty in 2006. In 2018 she was appointed interim associate vice president for research.

Dr. Harris received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bowie State University in Maryland. She holds a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and a Ph.D. in rehabilitation counselor education from the University of Iowa.

Hub Brown will be the next dean of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. Brown will assume his new position on July 1, 2021. He currently serves as associate dean for research, creativity, international initiatives and diversity, and an associate professor of broadcast and digital journalism at the Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

Brown has been a member of the faculty of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications since 1996. A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Brown earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
