University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Names Its Next Chancellor

The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents unanimously approved the selection of Thomas Gibson to become the 15th chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. He will take office on January 11.

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point enrolls nearly 8,000 undergraduate students and about 500 graduate students, according to the latest data furnished to the U.S. Department of Education. African Americans make up just 2 percent of the undergraduate student body.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to serve as the 15th chancellor at UW-Stevens Point,” Dr. Gibson said. “UW-Stevens Point has a rich history and culture, and dedicated students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders that I am looking forward to joining.”

Dr. Gibson has been serving since 2016 as vice president for student affairs and vice provost at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Previously, he was associate vice president of student affairs at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and associate dean for student development at York College of the City University of New York.

Dr. Gibson is a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University, where he majored in mass communications and media studies. He earned a master’s degree in education at the University of New Haven and a doctorate in higher education administration from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.
