Founded in 1915 as the University Demonstration School for the LSU College of Education, University Laboratory School receives operating funds from the state through the Minimum Foundation Program, philanthropic support through the ULS Foundation, as well as tuition. 

The Laboratory School utilizes five key functions in pursuit of its mission:

Reporting to the Dean of the School of Human Sciences & Education, the Director of the University Laboratory School serves as the chief academic, fiscal, and administrative officer for the school. Under the oversight of the college of Human Sciences & Education, the Director provides leadership and support in the areas of finance, teaching, student services, development, outreach, and professional activities that promote the school and University’s mission and vision; represents the school at regular meetings and other events that have school, college, or university implications; and develops and maintains positive working relationships with various agencies, ULS constituents and stakeholders. 


  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education;
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience (5 years of successful classroom teaching and 3 years of school administrative experience);
  • Ability to qualify for a Louisiana school administrator’s certificate;
  • Understanding of the genuine commitment to the core principles & practices of the International Baccalaureate’s Diploma, PYP, and MYP Programs.


  • An earned doctorate (PhD or EdD) in education or closely related field; 
  • 3 years of experience as Superintendent, Head of School, or Head of School division.

The successful candidate will be an experienced leader who can embrace the history and culture of the institution while addressing the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing world. The candidate’s administrative background should reflect strong consensus-based decision-making and a clear understanding of the current issues facing education.  The successful candidate must be politically savvy, able to work collegially and effectively with diverse constituencies, and demonstrate an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset. Candidates must embrace the school’s motto of “total effort in every endeavor” and have the capacity to inspire, motivate, and lead others.  The new Director should demonstrate a commitment to diversity together with the skills to promote and sustain a compassionate and nurturing community in which each person can feel recognized and valued.  At the same time, the Director will need to keep in balance the academic, athletic, artistic, and other needs of students and faculty.

Louisiana Revised Statute 42:31 ( requires all unclassified employees earning $100,000 or more annually to provide proof of a valid Louisiana driver’s license and that all vehicles titled in their name have been registered in the state of Louisiana.
