POSITION SUMMARY: The Success Coach helps students develop skills, behaviors and habits that contribute to success in college. These includes academic and career goal setting, learning strategies, time management and organization, self-regulation and self-efficacy. Provides academic advising to undergraduate students and builds relationships that support their academic and career plans. This position is responsible for working one-on-one with students to help students develop effective learning strategies and to become self-guided learners. The Student Success Coach will help students improve academically by identifying strengths and weaknesses and create a structured and collaborative approach to support academic progress.

 Essential Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains working relationships with counselors and administrators to promote program.
  • Uses the Developmental Intrusive Academic Advising model to build relationships with new and current students to support student success and retention.
  • Coordinates and integrates initiatives that promote and enhance student services and activities
  • Creates academic plans for students and communicate with them on a regular basis
  • Provides assistance to students for academic and career advising, as well as assistance with students continuing on academic warning, probation or dismissal
  • Aids students in the understanding of graduation requirements, academic policies and procedures, and assist students with unofficial degree audits.
  • Refers students to other services on campus and off-campus such as academic advising, counseling and career services, tutoring and other resources to support the students’ personal needs
  • Serve as a student advocate and mentor, acting as a liaison among students, faculty, college departments, and community resources
  • Assist with Summer Bridge and new student orientations as needed
  • To serve as an instructor of Freshman Seminar I and II, Sophomore Seminar and Student Life Skills courses
  • Practices excellence in teaching and instruction
  • Provide students with skills and strategies that will promote self-guided learning.
  • Works with students to develop and strengthen time-management and organizational skills.
  • Motivates students to take ownership of their own academic success.
  • Documents and monitors student academic progress.
  • Assists students with developing critical thinking skills that promotes good decision making.
  • Plans and Facilitates Student Success Workshops
  • Provides specialized academic coaching sessions
  • Assists students with focusing on individual goals and identify steps to reaching goals.
  • Assists students with identifying obstacles that may interfere with their academic success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Will require some evening and weekend hours

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and proficiency in computers, especially Microsoft office applications
  • Strong knowledge of student support programs and ability to make referrals
  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and attention to detail
  • Experience in teaching college level students

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in academic advising or closely related field.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of proactive academic advising
  • Demonstrate general understanding of students’ affective domain and knowledge of resources to assist students’ needs.
