The New Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Assessment at Howard

Morris Thomas is the new director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Assessment at Howard University in Washington, D.C. He was an associate professor and the inaugural director for the Center for the Advancement of Learning at the University of the District of Columbia. Earlier, Dr. Thomas worked in the Office of Specialized Services and Supplemental Instruction at New Jersey City University, serving students with disabilities.

Dr. Thomas developed a conceptual framework called the E.N.H.A.N.C.E. Learning Model. This model provides seven strategies to inform intentional course design and delivery. He is particularly interested in ensuring that various instructional dynamics create inclusive learning experiences and serve diverse learners online.

Dr. Thomas serves as an editorial board member for the American Research Journal of Humanities & Social Sciences, and as reviewer for the International Journal of Virtual and Personal Learning Environments. He is the author of the book Focus: The Missing Factor; A Practical Guide to Accomplishing Your Goals (Excellence Enterprise Publihing, 2009).

Dr. Thomas is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he majored in music. He earned master’s degrees from New Jersey City University, Ohio State University, and LaSalle University in Philadelphia. Dr. Thomas holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Morgan State University in Baltimore.
