Job Description:

Reports To: Director of Employee Services
Supervises: Student Workers

Summary of Position:
The Sr. HR Generalist works extensively and cooperatively with the Director of Employee Services and is responsible for assisting the Director of Employee Services in carrying out Human Resources activities including but not limited to: employee relations, training and development, and compensation. The Sr. HR Generalist will ensure that employee relation functions conform to all applicable regulatory requirements and works closely with the management team in supporting and promoting policies and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Facilitates a centralized employee recruitment process in a consistent, easily understood, timely and efficient manner.
  • Supports the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of subordinate staff in the department.
  • Maintain and update job descriptions for all college positions; assist managers in preparing job descriptions as required.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Oversees and administers all employee separations.
  • Manages employee recognition events.
  • Produce reports as requested.
  • Provides support to supervisors and employees regarding personnel practices and policies to ensure compliance with all state and federal employment regulations, provides HR Policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Lead the annual Staff Service Awards program.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Supports professional development initiatives through the institution.
  • Assists in Request For Proposals (RFP's) from vendors and programs, soliciting bids and negotiating contracts with providers.
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, increase productivity and retention.
  • Provides input on department restructures, workforce planning, and succession planning.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicates regularly with supervisor pertaining to departmental issues.
  • Supports Employee Services events and initiatives.
  • Function as backup for benefits.
  • Various committees as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Thorough knowledge of human resources principles, practices and procedures related to benefits, payroll, compensation and classifications; compliance issues and practical application.
  • Experience/Understanding in researching and managing survey submissions.
  • Basic understanding of data benchmarking.
  • Foster a diverse, multicultural, success-oriented workplace;
  • Experience/Understanding in researching and managing survey submissions;

Education and Training

  • Bachelor's degree or experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree, masters preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of HR generalist experience, professional development and/or
  • Work with post-secondary educational organizations a plus..
  • Union contract involvement a plus.
  • SPHR/PHR certification a plus.

Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands

  • Office environment with periodic requirements to sit, stand, walk, kneel, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, and lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to effectively exchange information in person or on the telephone.
  • Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, exempt position with an FTE of 1.0. Salary is commensurate with experience, and includes an excellent benefits package including medical/dental/vision/life/LTD insurance, 403(b) retirement plan with college-matching after 6 month qualifying period, 10 days of vacation for year one, 15 days of vacation for years 2-10, and 22 days of vacation years 10+ plus, 12 sick days and 17 paid holidays (subject to annual review).
