Primary responsibilities will include teaching a range of teacher preparation undergraduate and graduate courses including: 

  • Develop courses as needed including newly approved special education courses 
  • Teach 28 credits a year within the School of Education both within the special education program and within the School of Education as needed 
  • Support coordination of certificates in Urban Education, Gifted and Talented, and ASD 
  • Advise capstone projects, theses and dissertations as needed 
  • Serve on HSE, college-wide, and/or university-wide committees as needed 
  • Attend all unit meetings and training 
  • Complete annual reflective and goal-setting process 
  • Participate in grant writing and development activities as needed 
  • Support accreditation work through programmatic data collection, use of shared platforms (such as Workday, Watermark, Google Suite, and Filemaker Pro, etc), and convening of advisory board panels 
  • Review programmatic data to help with continuous improvement 
  • Support mentoring of students informally and formally through specific programs as needed 
  • Support unit clinical placements and partnership work 
  • Support admissions and recruitment work by attending information session and other activities to represent Hamline and its programs to prospective students 


  • Acquired terminal degree (Ph. D. or Ed.D.) in special education, curriculum and Instruction, or closely related field (for which candidate must have at least 18 graduate credit hours in Special Education) from an accredited institution of higher education (or the foreign equivalent or its equivalent in training, ability, and/or experience) at the time of appointment. (ABD candidates will be considered) 
  • Experience teaching students with disabilities in culturally and linguistically diverse K-12 settings for a minimum of three years. 
  • Evidence of potential in scholarship and for funded research in special education. 
  • Evidence of a commitment to equity and social justice for all children and youth. 
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues in an interdisciplinary environment. 


  • 7+ years of teaching experience in the K-12 setting 
  • Teaching experience at the college level 
  • Demonstrated scholarship 
  • Demonstrated funded research
