Advancing inclusiveness and diversity initiatives for employees in both organizations requires an experienced, tenacious, and results-oriented professional. If this exciting opportunity interests you, please consider applying to join the Outreach and Online Education (OOE) Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) as the Director, Inclusion, Equity and Diversity. In this position, the successful candidate will provide overall leadership for OOE efforts for inclusion, equity and diversity and coach the SLT members in effective strategies for formalizing these values into programs, process structures and policies in OOE. The candidate will serve as a resource to OOE employees, students and volunteers, providing leadership in systemic efforts to improve cultural competency, understanding, and skills in serving increasingly diverse populations. Strong collaborative skills will be needed to form and foster relationships with other University partner units, such as the Office of Educational Equity, Affirmative Action office, Penn State Human Resources and other units as appropriate.

Reporting to both the Vice President, Outreach and Vice Provost for Online Education, the Director serves as a member of the STL and World Campus Governance (WCG) and Outreach Strategic Management Group (OSMG) to ensure alignment and consistency of strategies throughout both organizations. Close collaboration with OOE Human Resources (HR) and the OOE Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council (DEIC) will be expected.

Duties will include the following: Engage and support the OOE Strategic Leadership Team (SLT) in developing and executing effective strategies for the OOE units. Establish and monitor progress of accountability tools to assess diversity efforts. Serve as a contributing member of the University's Administrative Council on Multicultural Affairs. Partner with Penn State Human Resources Talent Acquisition Unit to leverage effective onboarding, recruiting, and hiring strategies and best practices. Collaborate with internal partners, such as OOE HR and the DEIC, to advance desired initiatives. Participate in search committees to bring awareness and mindfulness toward diversity in the recruitment and hiring processes. Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for internal and external partners on inclusion, equity, and diversity best practices. Identify and monitor useful metrics and other diversity data to track progress in diversity-related efforts, such as diversity of OOE employee population, satisfaction ratings in workplace climate survey data, and other relevant indicators. Provide regular oral and written updates to various audiences

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree or higher plus eight years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A Master's or PhD in a related field is desired. Experience working in or knowledge of inclusion, equity, and diversity best practices in higher education institutions is preferable. A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people to build positive vision, direction, and results related to OOE strategic initiatives is necessary. Effective communication and leadership skills are essential, as well as ability to work independently. Ability to give presentations and educational sessions. Highly developed interpersonal skills, discretion, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information are important, given the personal nature of many conversations on inclusion, equity and diversity. A record of successfully driving organizational progress and change by influencing others without direct authority and managing large-scale projects is also required.
