New Assignments in Higher Education for Four Black Faculty Members

Kevin Haggard is a new assistant professor of social work in the College of Public Service at Tennessee State University. He was director of talent management for RePublic Charter Schools in Nashville.

Dr. Haggard is a graduate of Tennessee State University. He holds a master of social work degree from Western Kentucky University and an educational doctorate from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville.

Lisa Beckley-Roberts, associate professor of ethnomusicology, has been named the chair of the department of music in the College of Liberal Arts at Jackson State University in Mississippi. She has served as interim chair since 2017. Dr. Beckley-Roberts is an accomplished performer who has been principal harpist with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra and the Central Florida Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Beckley-Roberts is a graduate of Dillard University in New Orleans, where she majored in harp performance. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in ethnomusicology from Florida State University.

Jamal Duncan was appointed assistant professor of instrumental conducting at the Arizona State University School of Music. He was assistant director of bands at the University of Arkansas.

A native of Flint, Michigan, Dr. Duncan received a bachelor’s degree in clarinet performance at the University of Michigan. He earned a master’s degree and a doctor of musical arts degree from Michigan State University.

Moses T. Kairo, dean of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences, was elected national chair of the Experiment Station Committee on Organization and Policy, a unit of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ Commission on Food, Environment, and Renewable Resources, Board on Agriculture Assembly.

Dr. Kairo is a graduate of the University of Nairobi in Kenya, where he majored in zoology. He holds a master’s degree in applied entomology from Imperial College of London and a Ph.D. in entomology from the University of London.
