New Administrative Posts in Higher Education for Seven African Americans

Toyia Younger has been named senior vice president for student affairs at Iowa State University. Dr. Younger has been serving as the vice president for leadership development and partnerships for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. Earlier, she was associate vice chancellor for student affairs for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.

Dr. Younger is a graduate of Michigan State University. She holds a master’s degree in student counseling from Trinity Washington University and a doctorate in education policy from the University of Maryland College Park.

Courtney Boddie was been promoted to associate dean of students for diversity and inclusion at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He was director of counseling services and will continue to perform those duties.

Dr. Boddie earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational behavior/human resources, social entrepreneurship, and psychology from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis. He holds a master’s degree in counseling and psychotherapy and a Ph.D. in counseling and counselor education from the University of Missouri at St. Louis.

Brandon Vinson was named assistant vice president for enrollment management at Bowie State University in Maryland. He had been serving as assistant vice president of financial aid at West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Earlier, Vinson was executive director of financial aid at the University of Baltimore.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University, Vinson holds a master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He is completing work on a doctorate in educational leadership.

Ashley Storman was promoted to director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Maryville University in St. Louis. Since 2017, she has been a program coordinator for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Previously, Dr. Storman worked at the University of Missouri at St. Louis, where she served as an academic coach/peer mentoring coordinator for the Office of Multicultural Student Services.

Dr. Storman holds a bachelor’s degree in criminology and a master’s degree in postsecondary education – student affairs from the University of Northern Iowa. She earned an educational doctorate at Maryville University.

Rodney Bond was appointed chief of public safety at Denmark Technical College in South Carolina. He was a lieutenant for the police department at South Carolina State University.

Bond is a graduate of Columbia Southern University with a degree in criminal justice administration.

Denise Pearson was appointed vice chancellor and chief diversity, equity, and inclusion officer for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. She has been serving as vice president for academic affairs and equity initiatives at the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association.

Dr. Pearson earned master’s degrees in conflict resolution from the University of Denver and educational administration from Concordia University. She holds a Ph.D. in administration and supervision of education from Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Tayo Clyburn has been named dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. He had been serving as vice president of inclusive diversity and equity and chief diversity officer at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Dr. Clyburn holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in English from Ohio State University, where he specialized in 20th- and 21st-century African-American literature as well as critical race theory.

In Memoriam: Norman B. Anderson, 1955-2024

Dr. Anderson was the assistant vice president for research and academic affairs at Florida State University at the time of his death. He had an extensive career in clinical psychology, which led him to become the first African American chief executive officer of the American Psychological Association.
