Information on the Department:

The Natural Science and Mathematics (NSM) Division of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) offers majors in Biology (BA, BS), Earth and Environmental Science, Mathematics, Mathematical Studies, and Environmental Studies. We also offer minors in these areas and in Health and Cognitive Neuroscience, and our division serves the general education needs of CLAS. Our faculty teach, perform service, and engage in scholarly work, much of it integrated into the curriculum and involving students. 

Job Description and Responsibilities (Can be a summary from Job Description):

Lesley University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is searching for a highly qualified and experienced instructor to teach Mathematics courses as well as engage in service functions for the Natural Science and Mathematics Division. The teaching workload is 7 units per year, with Calculus 1 and 2, which meet three times a week for slightly longer time periods, being 1.33 units. Courses potentially include Making Meaning with Math (our Mathematics competency course in Fall and Spring), Problem Solving (Fall), Patterns and Functions (Fall and Spring), Introduction to Statistics, Calculus 2 (Spring), and Linear Algebra (Spring). 

Service work is also part of the one-year appointment and includes attendance and participation in monthly division and school meetings, student advising, and other assigned work related to the Natural Science and Mathematics Division’s goals for the year.

We are looking for an experienced team-oriented mathematics instructor with college teaching experience and with expertise in and familiarity with inquiry-based pedagogies that engage students in active learning about the world. The successful candidate will have experience working effectively with diverse students and will be able to show evidence of inclusive teaching.  A PhD degree in Mathematics or a related discipline, or an EdD with a focus on Mathematics teaching, is required.   • A PhD in Mathematics, an EdD with a focus on mathematics instruction, or a related field.
  • A record of successful teaching at the undergraduate level.
  • Evidence of working effectively with diverse students.
  • Evidence of inclusive teaching.
  • Ability to teach courses from introductory undergraduate college level to senior level.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; if you hold a visa, your visa status must allow you to work at Lesley University.
