Starting Salary: $90,000 – $110,000 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

UC Santa Cruz is a public university like no other in California, combining the intimacy of a small, liberal arts college with the depth and rigor of a major research university.

Involved in the development of server / OS / desktop / mobile applications and services including researching, designing, developing specifications for designing, writing, modifying, testing, debugging, troubleshooting and maintaining source code. Also having direct or related involvement in designing related databases, user interfaces, integration to other systems / applications, content or multimedia processes. Work includes analysis and design to post-production processes, quality assurance, maintenance and documentation.

Uses advanced applications programming skills to resolve highly complex issues related to Smarter Balanced applications and conduct code fixes and enhancements. Regularly works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. May lead a team of internal or external engineers on projects or technical efforts. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Advanced knowledge of secure software developmentThorough experience with common programming tools.
  • Highly advanced skills associated with large and small scale software specification, design, modification, implementation and deployment including object-oriented programming concepts.Specifically, expert knowledge in full-stack Java SE/EE, Javascript, Node, PHP, Containers, Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud-based Microservices, API integrations, CI/CD Pipelines, and NoSQL databases such as Cassandra.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
