Washington and Lee University invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost. 

Founded in 1749 and located in historic Lexington, Virginia, Washington and Lee University is a vibrant liberal arts university known for academic excellence, uncommonly strong student-faculty relationships, a campus culture of civility, a rich and innovative curriculum, a revered Honor System, and a distinguished history of producing graduates of intellect, promise, and integrity. The W&L community includes 2,264 students and 289 faculty and is supported by an endowment of $1.6 billion. Reporting to President William C. Dudley as part of the administrative cabinet, the next Provost will serve as the University’s chief academic officer with primary responsibility for W&L’s academic mission. The Provost oversees the three academic units of the University (The CollegeThe Williams School of Commerce, Economics, and Politics, and the School of Law), as well as the University Library, the University RegistrarInformation Technology ServicesUniversity Athletics, the Mudd Center for Ethics, the Center for International Education, the Johnson Program in Leadership and Integrity, and the Office of Community-Based Learning. The Provost manages a team of 12 direct reports and 2019-20 budgets totaling $61 million. The ideal candidate will have distinguished educational and intellectual achievements, proven leadership abilities, a track record of supporting academic freedom, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
